Michael’s Legacy of Helping Others

Like many of us, Michael Bodge never learned how to recognize cancer symptoms. He was young and athletic and it didn’t occur to him that he could have cancer. Unfortunately, by the time he saw the doctor and was diagnosed with testicular cancer, it had progressed. After a difficult battle, Michael passed away in 2019 at 28 years-old.

One of Michael’s core values was supporting and helping others. To honor his legacy, Michael’s family and friends established the Michael Bodge Tribute Fund, to empower young adults with the life-saving advantage of early cancer detection. His family believes this education could have saved Michael’s life. Through the support of the fund, DetecTogether has taught 3 Steps Detect to thousands of young adults in high schools, colleges, and universities.

Whether online or in-person, we weave the stories of real people like Michael, who have had cancer, into our presentations. Brave cancer warriors bring the lessons they learned to others to illustrate how early warning signs of cancer can look and feel, when to take action, and what to share with your doctor.

“Mike fell victim to the common ideology among younger people that he was too young and healthy to have a serious illness, such as cancer.”
